What are the differences between the different Witch paths?
Sorry, I know very little about the different types of witch practices.
I gather there are Druid, Wicca and Pagan paths.
What are the teachings and beliefs of each of these....the differences?
What are the other paths and their ways?
Thanks in advance! x
what are eclectic pagans, hellen pagans, solitayr pagans etc (I am sorry if these are spelt wrong)
sorry, Hellenic Pagans
This is a very complex set of questions. First, the practice of witchcraft is not the same as Druidism, Wicca and Paganism. Witchcraft is an active form of prayer utilizing energy to (hopefully) bring about an intention. Some Druids, Wiccans and Pagans are witches, but not all. There are Jewish witches and even Christian witches.
Paganism is a general term for any religion that is not Judeo-Christian. Hindus as well as Druids and those following native traditions can all be called "Pagan." Neo-Paganism refers more specifically to spiritual paths based in older belief systems but which have been revisited and revised to make sense in our modern world. Wicca is one such path.
Wicca is a religion which revers nature and the cycles of the earth. Most Wiccans revere a Goddess and a God but there are some that focus only on the feminine aspects of the divine. These are usually called "Dianic." Most Wiccans believe in some form of Karma - that what you do in this life will be revisited on you emotionally, physically and spiritually. And many Wiccans are witches, that is they use ritual dance, candle burning and other ceremonies to move energy with a specific intent such as healing.
There are many Wiccan pathways, each with their own unique ways of worship. There are too many to name but you may want to investigate witchvox.org to get a flavor. These paths are often referred to as "traditions" among the Wiccan community. A tradition will usually be able to trace its origins to a founder or group of founders, sometimes hereditary but more often than not based in the teachings of a few occultists who became popular in the 1950s and 60s. Some traditions are based on a particular culture or pantheon. There are Greek, Norse and Native American Wiccans that draw their inspiration from these sources. The most common Wiccan path is "Eclectic" meaning a combination of whatever source material feels right to the practitioner.
Druidism is not a path with which I am intimately familiar; however, I can say that it is (mostly) re-constructionist in nature, meaning those who practice are doing their best attempts to research direct sources that they may practice their faith in as close a way possible to the original, historic practitioners.
For further reading I recommend Drawing Down the Moon by Margot Adler and The Spiral Dance by Starhawk.
