What can I use to glue a stone/marble carved chess piece back together?
I have a stone carved chess set. It looks like marble, but somehow one of the pieces got broken in half. There has to be some kind of solvent for gluing stone back together. Can anyone suggest anything more suitable than just plain old super glue?
Jerry M's answer is correct. Gorilla Glue works for alot of applications stone included. Just be sure to moisten both ends to be glued with water and apply one drop to one of the pieces. For this particular project wait a few minutes before joining, i.e., let the drop get tacky. Once it tacks up join the two pieces and let dry.
Gorilla Glue is a urethane and it greatly expands as it cures; that being said be sure to use just one drop; otherwise it'll foam out all over your piece. There is also Loctites "Perfect Glue", which would be my first choice. These glues come in Pefect Glue 1, 2, & 3. I believe 3 is the one for ceramic and stone if my memory serves me correctly. This won't have the expansion characteristics of Gorrilla and it comes in a bottle similar to the super glues. It's less money and will be just as, if not more durable and effective.
