Can You set a different shape stone in a round gemtite semi mount casting?
I want to try my hand at creating my own custom birthday ring, and i found a gorgeous 6mm round 'gemtite' semi mount casting on JTV.com, and i'm browsing the stones and find i'm not so much a fan of the round stones as much as i am the heart and trillions, so is it possible to successfully mount different shaped stones in a casting that says 'round'?

The great thing about the gemtite and snaptite jewelry is that it is SO easy. But, it's also pretty exact. Most suggest using calibrated stones that are EXACTLY 5mm, 6mm, and so on. Say your stone is 5.6mm. If you buy the 6mm setting, it'll be extremely loose. Buy the 5mm, and it just won't work at all. If you look at the prongs, you'll see that they are placed specially for one size/shape of stone. I looked at the setting you're talking about. Very pretty, but imagine trying to get those prongs to reach every edge of the center stone. I would go ahead and set a round in it, and save the fancy shape for next time. Have fun with it!
