why is child abuse considered the one crime you can "ask god for forgiveness" without recall to the law?
If I rob a bank nobody says "if you are truly sorry, ask Jesus to forgive you and move on" > "turn yourself in!" is the relfex response. Why isn't this the case with child abuse?
My question is for Catholics and non-catholics alike.
Why is sex-abuse the only crime that someone can be prosecuted for with no evidence at all?
If I told police that someone stabbed me 5 months ago, they wouldn't pursue the matter unless there was evidence... but if I told them (falsely) that someone had 'touched me up' 20 years ago...they would question that person, take him to court and, if I was persuasive enough, they could believe me and send that person to jail.Even if no conviction was made, that person's life would be ruined..(no smoke without fire etc). That person might be totally innocent, they might have angered me in some way and I might be looking for revenge.
