I think there are many human activities which have postively benefitted few species often (but not always) at the cost of many. But the activity which has good benefits is creation of artificial wetlands-eg Bharatpur National park.
But of your 4 options -3 is the most appropriate.
Hunting may occasionally preserve habitats when the alternative use for the same habitat is to convert it into grain fields or industries.
For example if 1000 sq. km of African Savanna is preserved to enable rich tourists hunt Zebra at a cost of 10,000$ per individual animal hunted, it makes more environmental sense than converting that area into agricultural land where people grow millets which would not fetch them 10000$ for the same resources needed to grow an adult Zebra. But it is a lot more complex than that.
