Best would be wet sanding with resin bonded diamond sand paper of various grid size, though silicon carbide works too. If you don't have anything motorized it's going to require an awful amount of elbow grease. Start with the rough work to the fine. Eventually you will need to switch to a polishing compound like tin oxide.
