We just adopted a adult coon hound and I think she has bowed legs, what could have caused this...?
Mala is a black and tan coon hound and she's somewhere around 3-4years old. She was found wandering around in Lodi, OH prior to our adoption. Just by looking at her, her elbows tend to move outwards sometimes and it looks like a bulldog pose. I think she has bowed legs and I was wondering what could have caused this and if there's anything to do for her? She doesn't seem to be in any pain because she also has a pulling problem and she's quite strong. We'll be working on her training too, we just adopted her yesterday. Thanks in advance!!! ![]()
yea I thought it was bad breeding. Cause Lodi is sort-of amish country and I think she may have been a run-away amish mill dog. She doesn't seem to have anyother genetic problems tho. Its sad that she had to live in those conditions prior. If it seems to give her any pain then we'll take her in to the vets and see what they reccomend. Thanks for the help!
Most often severe bowed legs are caused by poor breeding. However there are other factors that may cause it as well such as poor nutrition, trauma, medical disease, or improper housing - ie, kept in a small cage for too long.
You may need to get this checked out by the vet if the condition worsens.
