If you damage your hair (by straitening it) will it grow back damaged?

I just brought a wet to dry straitener and my friend (who is a hairdresser) said not to use it coz it will damage my hair. I don't really care to be honest, but I would care if it was permenently damaged.

It's nice you're honest, though I do have to concur with your friend, it is extremely damaging. It won't significantly damage your hair permanently, immediately.

However, with continued use, breakage can become so bad that it breaks the hair off at or near the root. When this happens, not only will you have much less hair length, but it is possible for ingrown hairs to occur.

This can permanently damage the pore that holds the root of the hair, making it impossible for another hair to grow from that pore. Breakage can also happen inside the pore, with the same result.

I'm sure you'll go ahead and use it, which is fine: it's your hair. If and when you notice your hair is like straw and you have much less of it than you used to then maybe you will reconsider. Some hair types can take more damage than others, so if you use this sparingly, you may not have a problem.
