White Macbook flashing Icons! PLEASE HELP?
Ok so i have a white macbook. when i try to start it up it makes the chime sound and the long humm. then after on the white screen a non-smoking sign pops up (/) and the apple and the folder with a question mark... aka the folder of doom. you see these icons for a while then the computer shuts down. please help
This means that the Mac cannot find a valid System Folder. Try these:
1) Hold the Option key immediately after the start up tone. Your Mac may have "forgotten" where the folder is. Holding the Option key will tell it to look. If it finds it, select it and let it start up. After start up, do steps 1 and 2 of the link below.
2) If that does not fix it, do step 5 to attempt to fix the drive, then stp 6 to reinstall the OS. Additionally, while you have Disk Utility open, select the main hard drive (not just the volume) and see if the SMART status is "verified". If so, the drive is probably good.
